Bunny Cakes

Shaped cakes are a real craft and this game is built around the part of it that actually matters: carving. You bake a plain carrot sponge, then cut it down into a rabbit — ears from the offcuts, body from the round, the whole thing assembled before a drop of icing appears.

That order is the game’s argument. Because the shape is settled while the cake is still bare, the icing stage becomes a covering job rather than a drawing job, and a badly carved rabbit stays a badly carved rabbit no matter what colour goes on top.

It is messier than the tidy recipe games around it, and it says so. Crumbs get everywhere, offcuts pile up, and the finished animal is recognisably hand-made. That is the appeal, and it is the reason the title reads as a project rather than a routine.

1. Bake the carrot sponge and let it cool.
2. Carve the body and cut ears from the offcuts.
3. Assemble the pieces and crumb-coat the whole shape.
4. Ice, then add the face and finishing details.

Keep the offcuts. The ears need more sponge than the first cut gives you, and rebaking is not an option once the oven stage is done.
