Unusually for a counter game, the dough is made rather than provided. Flour, water and yeast go into a bowl, the mix is kneaded and rested, and only then does it become a base — which means a first pizza takes noticeably longer than the ones after it.
Sauce gets the same treatment: cooked in a pan from tomatoes rather than poured from a jar. By the time toppings appear you have already done two thirds of the work, and the topping stage is consequently the quickest and least interesting part.
